Wondering how to go LIVE on TikTok and get LIVE access? TikTok's help pages show no separate application form for LIVE in the app: if you meet the requirements, you simply start through the LIVE button. TikTok names 18 years or older and 1,000 followers, although that may vary across regions. For LIVE Studio on your computer, you do request access, through Your LIVE access. TikTok always decides on access itself.
Who can go LIVE on TikTok?
On its official help page What is TikTok LIVE?, TikTok lists these requirements:
- At least 18 years old to go LIVE.
- At least 18 years old to send or receive Gifts during a LIVE.
- 1,000 followers to go LIVE. TikTok adds that this may vary across regions.
You also follow the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. TikTok says LIVE and Gift features are not currently available everywhere. Fewer than 1,000 followers? Read our guide TikTok LIVE without 1000 followers, where we explain the route through an agency invitation and joining as a guest.
Not sure why going LIVE fails? Go through the five causes in why can't I go LIVE on TikTok.
How to go LIVE on TikTok
This is how you check in the app whether you can go LIVE, and start right away:
- Tap Add post + at the bottom.
- Tap LIVE at the bottom. You may need to scroll across.
- Add a title, filter or effect, or adjust other LIVE settings.
- Tap Go LIVE.
If you do not see LIVE, you may not meet the requirements yet, your age may not be confirmed yet, or LIVE may not be available for your account.
Confirming your age to go LIVE
You must be 18 or older to go LIVE. Before you go LIVE, TikTok may ask you to confirm your age. Depending on your location, you can do this for example with photos of your government-issued ID and 3 selfies, or with a selfie together with your ID. If TikTok cannot determine your age, you cannot go LIVE. Sometimes TikTok does not ask, for example if you have done it before.
LIVE access required: requesting access for LIVE Studio
For TikTok LIVE Studio, TikTok's program for going LIVE from your computer, you need LIVE access. That is where you do apply:
- Open LIVE Studio. In the top right corner you see your LIVE access status.
- Click Your LIVE access.
- If you are already an active LIVE creator on TikTok, click Get access. TikTok looks at things like how old your account is, how much you went LIVE recently, your number of followers and whether your LIVE access was suspended recently.
- If you mainly stream on another platform, click Apply and fill in the form about your channel on that platform.
The review might take days. When you are approved, you receive a notice in the TikTok app. TikTok gives no fixed numbers on that page: the requirements vary by country or region and are subject to change without notice.
Did TikTok take away your LIVE because it thinks you are under 18? Follow the steps in our guide on the TikTok age ban.
What is TikTok LIVE Center?
LIVE Center is the place in the app for everything around your LIVEs. To find it, tap the plus button at the bottom, tap LIVE and then LIVE Center. There you can, for example, create a LIVE Event to announce your next LIVE in advance.
According to an explainer from TikTok, you also find analytics of your LIVEs, your replays and LIVE Academy videos there. That explainer dates from 2022, so what you see exactly may have changed since.
Keeping your LIVE for adults only
Want only viewers aged 18 or over to see your LIVE? Turn on Audience controls in your LIVE settings before you go LIVE. This setting is only available to the creator.
Lost your LIVE access?
TikTok can temporarily block access to certain creator features after a rule violation, and LIVE Studio also checks whether your LIVE access was suspended recently. Check Inbox, System notifications and Account updates for a notice. How to appeal is explained in our guide on a banned TikTok account.
How SPA helps you with this
