Yes, it is possible. The normal route is 1,000 followers, although TikTok itself says this may vary across regions. A second route is an invitation from an official TikTok LIVE agency: after you accept, TikTok can give you a LIVE challenge in which you go LIVE for at least 10 minutes, and then TikTok decides. Either way, you must be at least 18 years old.
How many followers do you need for TikTok LIVE?
The official help page What is TikTok LIVE? lists three requirements: at least 18 years old to go LIVE, at least 18 to send or receive Gifts, and 1,000 followers to go LIVE. For that last one, TikTok adds straight away: may vary across regions. TikTok's help pages give no fixed number for Belgium or the Netherlands.
TikTok may also ask you to confirm your age before you go LIVE, for example with a photo of your government ID or with selfies.
TikTok LIVE without 1000 followers: the agency route
Besides the follower threshold, there is a second way in: an invitation from an official TikTok LIVE agency. This is how it works:
- An agency admitted by TikTok invites you. You read the invitation and accept it yourself in the TikTok app.
- TikTok may then show you a task in the app to complete a LIVE challenge. TikTok asks you to go LIVE for at least 10 minutes in a single LIVE, before the date TikTok shows you.
- That LIVE gives TikTok a better picture of the LIVE content you want to create. TikTok then decides whether you can continue.
The age limit of 18 and the Community Guidelines still apply on this route. So prepare those first 10 minutes well: a clear topic, good light and sound, and talk to your viewers.
How do you check if you can already go LIVE?
- Open the TikTok app and tap Add post + at the bottom.
- Check whether LIVE appears at the bottom. You may need to scroll across.
- If LIVE is there, tap it, add a title and tap Go LIVE.
Why can't I go LIVE on TikTok?
- You are under 18, or your age has not been confirmed yet.
- You have not reached the follower threshold for your region and you have not (yet) been invited by an agency.
- Your LIVE access or certain creator features have been temporarily blocked after a rule violation. Check Inbox, System notifications, Account updates for a notification.
- LIVE is not available everywhere. TikTok itself says that LIVE and Gift features are not currently available everywhere.
Can you join a TikTok LIVE as a guest without 1000 followers?
As a guest, you join someone else's LIVE through the multi-guest feature:
- During someone's LIVE, tap Multi-guest at the bottom, then tap Request.
- Once the creator accepts your request, adjust your LIVE video settings.
- When you are ready, tap Go LIVE.
If a creator invites you, tap Accept on the invitation. The multi-guest option is not available in every LIVE, and a creator can choose to allow requests from followers only. On that help page, TikTok does not name a separate follower number for guests.
How do you apply for TikTok LIVE access?
If you want to stream with LIVE Studio, TikTok's own program for going LIVE, you can apply for LIVE access there:
- Open LIVE Studio and click Your LIVE access in the top right corner.
- If you are already an active LIVE creator on TikTok and meet the requirements, click Get access.
- If you mainly stream on another platform, click Apply and fill in the form about your channel on that platform.
The review can take days. If you are approved, you receive a notice in the TikTok app. TikTok adds that the requirements vary by country or region and can change without notice.
How SPA helps you with this
Stream Performance Agency (SPA) is an official TikTok LIVE agency for creators aged 18 or over in Belgium and the Netherlands. We can invite you whatever your follower count, and your personal coach helps you prepare your LIVE challenge. TikTok decides after that, so we cannot promise anything. Joining costs nothing and all your earnings stay yours.
